Frequently Asked Questions

  • A base level Game Count survey starts at $1/acre. Add on features like our Advanced ID and Interactive map will vary in price according to the properties animal density. All services will have an additional travel cost of $1/mile from San Diego, Tx.

  • The "best" time varies depending on the goal of the survey. The winter months typically mean cool temperatures & thin cover, often resulting in better thermal detection.

However late spring through early fall has its own advantages as well. For example, antlers produce a heat signature when in velvet, making it possible to differentiate a whitetail buck from doe without the need of a spotlight. Other reasons to fly during this part of the year include but are not limited to gathering data of:

    • Buck survival rate- Spring

    • Fawn crop- Summer & Fall

    • Antler progression- Summer & Fall

  • Yes, but it is not recommended to perform the majority of a survey during the day as it negatively impacts the thermal camera, leading to missed animal sightings.

If getting clear daylight shots is a priority to you, what we can do is perform a thermal game count prior to sunrise. Once that is complete there is a short window after sunrise where the sun is up, but the ground temperature is still cool enough to detect animals by thermal & then flip on the traditional camera lens for a detailed image.

  • A base level Game Count survey for a 500 acre property can be completed in less than an hour. With the Advanced ID feature it can take up to twice as long depending on animal density of the property.

From there we will export the data collected from the flight and create your personalized report. Expect to receive a digital copy of your report anywhere from 1-5 business days from the time of flight.

  • A Landowners Agreement (LOA)- "signed consent from the Landowner or Agent to manage a specified number of wildlife or exotic animals from an aircraft on certain property."- TPWD

This form can be signed and submitted electronically through TPWD.

Signing an LOA is a straightforward process. You will receive an email approving the details of your property along with the game species you authorize Rio Vision to count & photograph. Once submitted we are clear to fly!
